Gary Moran might want to think about investing in a Bekins van. The former Madera High star pitcher, who was picked up by the Atlanta Braves last season, had to pack up and move three times last year alone.
But with each new location, he was moving up in the Braves’ organization and gaining more exposure.
The 6-foot-9, 265-pound righthander whose wingspan makes condors envious, went from the Independent League in Missouri — where most players with major league baseball dreams go to die — then, after his contract was purchased by the Braves, was assigned to their single-A affiliate in Rome, Ga. After a successful stint there, he was moved up to the high-A team in Lynchburg, Va.
He finished his first season in the Braves organization with a record of 6-2, which should come as no surprise to those who know him...
