Though the girls are certainly prettier, I miss the smiling, bearded face of my favorite postman Sam Freeman behind the counter at the post office. Sam was always cordial and efficient and in addition he’s been a longtime reader.
After the MOPAR car show last Saturday at Town and Country Park I ran into Sam and he asked me what “MOPAR” meant. After many hours (okay, minutes) researching I have found that MOPAR is a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts. The MOPAR brand really hit it big in the 1960s with Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth muscle cars. I could have saved all this time researching by just asking my pal Tony Frede who has been involved in the annual show for years.

This frustrated scribe didn’t want to climb up on this soapbox again, and the children who are supposedly in charge of this country have finally come to their collective senses. I attended the Madera Rotary meeting yesterday where they announced they are sending four veterans to Washington on the Honor Flight program. One of them, J.B. Overstreet, mentioned that the country is not what it used to be when they (America’s Greatest Generation) were fighting the good fight against tyranny during World War II. Nothing could have rung more true. Not even the Liberty Bell.
For one, we’re trying to fix Iran, Afghanistan, and Syria and we can’t even fix Detroit. Sam’s postal service (established 237 years ago) is broke, Social Security (77 years ago) is broke, Medicare is broke, and I could go on and on. Meanwhile our elected officials just keep raking it in and talking bullbleep...
