Risking the loss of a reader. Half-awake last Sunday morning I stumbled into the Save Mart on Howard Road with seemingly only the shopping cart I was pushing for my gal keeping my face from becoming friends with the floor on a first name basis.

At the checkout line (a short line) I inadvertently stepped (okay, crowded) in front of a lady. She caught my attention with the words, “I guess I will have to quit reading your columns and wonderful desert stories.”

I offered to step back, but she declined. I then offered to help her remove her items from the basket, but again she opted for store assistance (better looking). However, when everything was concluded the witty, smiling and affable Barbara Cudd said she would continue being a fan of this fishwrap. What a gal!
