Robot-like. Congrats to the Robotics Team 1323 of Madera High School for their stellar performance at the competition this past weekend at the Madera South gym. The Coyote robot and the team are headed for Silicon Valley for a little stiffer competition, but they will be ready.

More kudos. I happened to be watching the news (instead of reading it) and was a little dismayed that a big deal was made by a national television network about a veteran finally receiving a Purple Heart.

This scribe is not saying he didn’t deserve the medal, but that same week, Thursday evening, at the VFW, our own hero, Martin Medellin, received a long overdue and well-deserved Purple Heart. Knowing Martin, who gave up his seat on the Central Valley’s first Honor Flight last October for another veteran, he would have said it was no big deal. Well, my friend, it was and you are.

Congratulations and thanks for your bravery and service to our country...
