I know when most people are treated in a rude way or without respect, it brings out the same in their reaction. I suppose the “get even” action makes us feel better at the time of the incident. Scriptures tell us about turning the other cheek. I know it is difficult to do for most people because of the intuitive feeling of survival. We tend to do what it takes to overcome the situation and get on with our life.

I was with a friend in a small town in the Midwest when we stopped for lunch at a small diner. The greeting we received when we walked in was not a welcome feeling. We seated ourselves and waited for the waitress to take our order. When she finally got to us she was unfriendly, rude and very short with the answers to a question we had about something on the menu.

When we finished our meal and were getting ready to leave, my friend said we should not leave a tip because of the rudeness and poor service. I didn’t quite agree but went along with his suggestion. We were going to be in that town for two or more days while we took care of business...
