But first, kids and cars. It was obvious to this early morning driver that school has started. The first two days of cruising the cool morning saw this wannabe demolition derby driver dodging kids and worse, dodging teens in their cars dashing to school.

Then between 7:45 and a tad after 8 a.m. cars and trucks were zipping down Howard Road well over the posted speed limit. How fast? Fast enough to not be able to stop at the traffic light at Schnoor Street on a red, but just fast enough, or maybe loud enough to miss a pedestrian. Sheesh, just get up a little earlier.

Fighters versus bombers. This WWII buff is not talking German ME-109s battling B-17s. However, while visiting the Bay Area, my hat came in quite handy and protective during what the locals are calling the worst seagull bombing season in years. Must be all that food they’re scarfing around Fisherman’s Wharf.

Meanwhile, down south at a beach between San Clemente and Dana Pointe they have hired falconers with falcons (of course) and hawks that catch and put a sense of terror into the gulls. Evidently the pesky poopers are very frightened by the birds of prey and are deserting the area by the thousands. Maybe we should try that around here with our crow problem...
