It appears as if we have finally introduced the sublime to the ridiculous in terms of Central Section sports.

Clovis East just captured the section championship — now, wait for it, and finish that sip of Pepsi before reading further or it might shoot right out of your nose from laughter — in girls badminton.

Neither of our high schools participate in this sport. This comforts me greatly as covering the games would require cardiac paddles to get through.

Folks, I have to tell you that a sport whose equipment can be purchased at Toys-R-Us is not a sport. It’s a game. Just like tetherball or jacks. Winning at Jenga would be much more worthy of being crowned a champion than badminton...
