Chocolate chips. According to the Consumerist, if you are in your favorite (and I hope local) grocery store and throw a box or two of Special K and those little chocolatey chunks in your basket thinking it’s more healthful than a kid’s cereal, you may just as well grab a box of Cocoa Puffs. The nutritional contents of both cereals are very similar. Actually, Cocoa Puffs are slightly lower in calories and fat. If you want a health tip, get your chocolate fix from the real and dark variety. It’s definitely better for the heart.

What has 80,000 miles of wire, weighs more than 83,000 tons and has about 250, 250-watt bulbs. Oh yeah, did I mention it is also 75 years old today? I’m sure you have guessed it is that iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

The “Golden Gate” is actually the strait that passes through to San Francisco Bay and was originally named Chrysopylae by John C. Fremont. Sure glad they changed the name. Chrysopylae Bridge doesn’t quite have that ring to it.

Back in the late ‘60s (yes, those times), I used to walk across the bridge. I would sometimes stop in mid-span and feel it sway (it is just hanging there between the two towers) in a strong wind. I’d end up in the Marin Headlands to camp and spend the night in and around Fort Cronkhite. The next morning it was down into Sausalito for a cheap breakfast at one of the local hangouts on Bridgeway Street. But, that’s another story from the memories of the Summer of Love...
