Whew! Yours truly made it through another Cupid’s Day. It all started at 6 a.m. when we arrived at the Breakfast Lions Ladies Day breakfast and student speech contest.
Thankfully, all three orators were not oratorical, but gave excellent talks to the assembled ladies and their Lion spouses. It bodes well to have these fine students, Andrea Belluamini and Steven Bryce Jackson from Madera High, and Michael Landeros from Furman High, in America’s future.
Congrats to all for terrific presentations. And a special thanks to the judges, Howard School principal Mark Beveridge, Monroe School vice principal Kimberly Bitter, and retired Berenda principal and director of MUSD Human Resources Mike Lennemann, for rising a little earlier than usual.

Breakfast Lion and former MUSD student services director and psychologist, Galen Wright, was coordinator of the above event. After the speech contest he directed a certain, as he said, “old romantic” to hand out sweets to the sweets (ladies). Don’t know if it was reflection of Galen or the Breakfast Lions members, but I noticed the box of candy had an embossed figure of a nude woman riding a horse. Of course, it was a box of (Lady) Godiva Chocolates...
