First off, tonight is the Chamber of Commerce’s big Lifetime Achievement Awards dinner and Chamber CAO Debi Bray and her staff have been working hard to get everything ready for the big show.

Sincere congratulations to this year’s recipients, Ronn Dominici, Steve Frazier, Dr. Aftab A. Naz, Marilyn Wibbenhorst, Lyle and Jan Zitek and this year’s memorial honoree the late Bob Kahn. All have given immeasurably to make Madera a better place to live, work and play. Read about it in the special insert in today’s Tribune.

Okay, who tried to fool Mother Nature? That was some lightning and thunder from 8 to almost 9 o’clock Monday evening. My gal and I sat snuggled up near the window watching the flashes and listening to the booms until she mentioned that our marriage was made in heaven and I replied, “yes, and so is lightning and thunder.”

Then it was just me and Racer, the dog watching the ebony clouds ignite. I told Racer I was reminded of the words of Mark Twain who said, “the difference between the right word and almost the right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug,” but he was not impressed and went off to chew on his big toy bone...
