Fun while fighting. And that is exactly what Maderans from the north, south, east and west of our city will be doing starting tomorrow at Lions Town and Country Park.

The annual Relay For Life will begin at 9 a.m. and initiate another 24-hour event that not only raises cancer awareness, but also honors the victims, survivors and (this year) caregivers. A record number of teams have registered, but even if you are not on a team, come out for a good time, meet new friends and join in the community spirit and fun.

Nice sightem: That would be earlier this week, at Save Mart on Howard Road, of Jack and Paula Perialas. Jack has spent some time in the hospital, and although Paula was pushing the cart, it was nice to see the two out and about. I guess Jack was saving his energy because a couple of days later, this scribe saw him coming out of Round Table Pizza with a few friends after what they called “a meeting.” Hmm, pizza and beer? Either way, it was a pleasant surprise.

I, in turn, gave him the biggest smile and awesome thumbs up I could muster. Evidently it left him in shock, because he slowed and I soon had left him in my mirror...
