Trying something new is never easy. We get set in our ways and life just seems to be better when the world gets used to running the way we want it to. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” goes the old saw.
That makes sense. When things are running smoothly, why would we want to change it? Why ruin a good thing, we ask.
I suspect some of this conservatism (no political points intended) arises from experience. Have you ever had something just right, gone to tweak it, and then have it break? I am thinking of all the times I set about building a house of cards, and I would get up to about the third story and decide to move just one card just a little itsy bitsy way and … crash; down it would topple...
