Getting something for cheap doesn’t always mean sacrificing quality.

I can get name-brand toothpastes, shampoos and snacks for mere pennies — much less than the generic or off-brand versions cost — by watching sale prices and using coupons.

But when it comes to big ticket items like laptops, lawn mowers, smartphones and even plane tickets, it takes some research to get things cheap without skimping on the quality.
