I’m thinking about taking up golf again, the regular kind, and maybe even the miniature type or the Frisbee variety. Or maybe I’ll join longtime bartender Waldo Miles in a bowling league. A chess club, maybe.
You see, after 29 years, today is my gal’s last day with the school district, where she has supervised the district’s printing department. I’ve never lived with her 24 hours a day, every day. Why, next week this column could change drastically.

Our local veterans, both VFW and American Legion members, do a great job in supporting our community. Last Sunday was no different when the VFW Color Guard opened the Fiesta in the Park by presenting the colors of our great nation (despite what’s happening in Washington) and leading the flag salute. By some gaff of whoever wrote that story (wait, ‘twas this humble scribe), or by lack of communication at the park, the article failed to mention the efforts of those honorable men. My apologies.

Is Madera the car show capitol of the state? It seems every weekend there is a car show somewhere in town and this week is no different, though a little specialized. Saturday at Lions Town and Country Park the MOPAR (Chrysler products) will be showing off their classic and customized cars and trucks. This annual show is always one of the best and if you get hungry while admiring all those beauties (I’m talking cars, fellas) the Madera Breakfast Lions will serve a great breakfast and lunch at their nearby booth...
