A cherished friend, Ronn Dominici, held true to his promise while I was recuperating in the hospital. “I’ll take you to your desert anytime you are ready,” he said. I am happy to say we have just returned from a single journey, out of the hundreds since the mid-1970s, that I didn’t have to drive, narrate, give historical facts, or tell tales, tall or otherwise about my beloved desert.

Ronn has accompanied this desert guide many times to the Northern Mojave and could also pass for a desert rat himself. More on this fascinating view from the passenger seat of his gal Cheryl’s Jeep Rubicon in a possible “Meandering” to appear Saturday, April 26 … again, just possibly.

News flash from our roving correspondent Arnie Allover, traveling in beautiful South Carolina. Arnie reports at an Arby’s in Mullins, S.C., on Highway 76, a burglar, Laqauin Deshawn Guy, tried to enter the restaurant after it closed by way of a ventilation shaft.

Sure enough, the guy, Guy, got stuck and had to be rescued by fire personnel. I guess you could say the guy, after struggling to get free of the ventilation shaft, was exhausted...
