How is it possible that this is Labor Day weekend? Where did the summer go? The conventional wisdom states, “Do a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!” That is my blessing for you.

Follow your bliss and may riches follow.

I had to laugh a couple of weeks ago when I saw my name pop up in Bill Coate’s “Snapshots of Madera’s Yesteryears,” from 25 years ago. He referenced a letter to the editor I wrote rallying against the building of the first of the two prisons that now reside in the Chowchilla area.

I wish I knew as much now as I did when I was 15. The year before I got my driver’s license I was convinced I had it figured out and all I needed was the mobility of a car so I could go out and set the world on fire. I get that same feeling when I remember the arguments against building prisons in Madera County...
