The evening news had a wonderful story last week about the World War II heroes returning from Washington after visiting the memorial in their honor.

I was so moved when they had mail call on the plane where everyone received a large envelope with their personal information and stories of their experience. Mail call is a very important part of keeping the morale at a high level in any branch of the military. Just watching the mail call on the plane brought back great memories about how everyone in my outfit looked forward to the mail call formation.

It was a very disappointing time for some of the troops, including me, when our names were not called to receive mail. It was a happy moment for those who received letters or packages from their family or girlfriends. Some of the troops were disappointed so many times, they stopped showing up for the mail call formations...
