Continuing our focus on cooking contests for the Madera District Fair (Sept. 6 through 9), I would like to get the word out about one called Death by Chocolate.

This fun contest is sponsored by Matt and Lori Angell. An entry is one whole cake, loaf, pie or one dozen pieces, and the entry deadline is Tuesday, August 14 at 6 p.m.

Have fun with this one, and think about which of your chocolate recipes happens to be your favorite. Then, if it lends itself well to being a contest entry (meaning it won’t be something like ice cream that will melt), consider signing up for the Death by Chocolate contest.

There is a $2 entry fee, but in addition to the normal first-, second- and third-place prizes of $20, $15 and $10, there are special awards for the top three, in the amounts of $60, $40 and $20. Not too bad! Money and chocolate, too! ...
