Dashing into the weekend

There’s a lot of happenings as we wind down from our summer fling. Tonight, at Lions Town and Country Park will be “Movie in the Park” at the amphitheater starting at dusk. It’s cooling off and what a great way to start the weekend with a family movie, “Puss in Boots” (I could have fun with that). Refreshments will be available from the concession. Bring a blanket and share some fun and laughs.

More family fun. For an unknown reason (at least to this scribe), year after year I forget to mention the Harvest Festival at St. Joachim’s. There’s fun, food, drinks, live music and most of all friendship — and all for a good cause. There, I feel much better this year. It’s tonight and Saturday.

I know this is starting to look like the Community Calendar, but it just goes to prove what a great town we live in with something fun for everyone, including those rock ’n roll cruisers, the good folks of Madera Classic Cars. They will be out in force (and RPMs) tonight at Walgreen’s.

Saturday, as mentioned, has gone to the dogs and to adults, but not at the same time. In the morning at Town & Country, the annual Bark For Life will see canines romping and doing what dogs do when they greet each other. That afternoon the Elks Lodge will host its annual rib cook-off and the public (for the first time) is invited to choose a “people’s choice award.” ...
