The Coarsegold 4-H Club recently helped Sierra Telephone in their meat tasting booth at the 2013 Oakhurst Fall Festival.

Sierra Telephone supports both the Future Farmers of America program and the 4-H program buy purchasing our home-grown livestock at the Madera and Chowchilla fairs. The Sierra Telephone “taste testing” booth was its way of promoting the delicious animals that the FFA and 4-H members raise every year, and it was also a way for us to encourage people to try something new!

Our samples included a cube of lamb, a cube of goat, and a cube of pig. Many people made funny faces and really didn’t want to try our meats. We didn’t give up! We explained all the time, sweet grains, and work that we put into our animals, and that the cubes would be the best thing they had ever tasted — AND IT WAS! Those people that made faces were won over in the end by our mouth-watering meats.

We all had a great time, and the festival was awesome! Not only could you try our meats, the festival had wine tasting, locally made beer, a petting zoo, chocolate samples, a really fancy car show, and even bouncy houses. There was something for everybody at the 2013 Oakhurst Fall Festival.
