Our next big event is the Chowchilla fair from May 16- 20. Most of us go to two fairs a year — Madera fair and Chowchilla fair. Some of us even go to other fairs and shows called jackpots.
At the fairs, 4-H kids get to show what they are learning. We will do showmanship in front of a judge with our animals like poultry, swine, sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits, or beef. If the animal is a meat animal, we also get to sell our animal at the auction at the end of the fair.
The fair is also for 4-H kids who do arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, and build cool stuff in ag mechanics. There are a lot of competitions to enter and it is a lot of fun to see our friends that we don’t get to see all the time.
We also get a chance to try livestock judging, where we decide which animals are the best ones. Chowchilla Fair also has my favorite activity called the barnyard scramble where any kid, even if they are not in 4-H, gets a chance to grab a baby animal and take it home...
