"Chances Are." A pretty good song by Johnny Mathis, but when it came to raising some much needed funds for local Marine Cpl. Chance Gaal, who was wounded in Afghanistan, nothing was left to chance by the Oakhurst and Madera Elks. Last Saturday they raised $10,000 to help in Chance’s recovery. To all those involved in the mountains and the Valley, the heartiest of congratulations on a job well done. To paraphrase the song above, “And, if you think you could, well, chances are your chances are awfully good.”

Wine, women and song. We’ve already had our song; however, this weekend on Madera’s Wine Trail there will be women, and of course the fine wine from our own local vintners. And, being the annual Valentine’s Wine and Chocolate Weekend, there will be sweets for your sweetheart. Come on out Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for some great tasting (still talking wine here), live music, and friendship along the trail.

Did I mention that was also free?
