Luckier than the Giants. Saturday afternoon, during the Elks Lodge’s annual Rib Cook-off, a special drawing was held. It wasn’t a gift from a local business or even a night at Chuck & Nancy’s casino, but a replica San Francisco Giants 2012 World Series Championship ring.

With witnesses, a video camera taping the drawing, and knowing the honest person that was to draw the ticket, it was an anxious moment. Then into the jar went a hand, a lot of stirring (can you feel the tension?) and out came the winning ticket. Congrats to Craig Serrano, an avid Giants fan, and look for a little extra glitter on one of Craig’s digits.

We have the same drug connection. Not that kind, gentle reader. As I pulled into BK Pharmacy at the end of 4th Street by chance I happened to park next to a couple of dedicated readers in Diane Landucci and her mother, Lou. What a pleasant surprise that made this meager scribe’s day.

I used to see Diane almost daily when she worked for Jim Hardesty at Madera Quality Meats next to my body shop on E Street and she always had a smile for me. We may be both a little (just a little) older, but she can still brighten my day...
