No matter what kind of stick you use, Fresno State got the short end of it.

Two years ago, when the Bulldogs were invited to join the Mountain West Conference, things were halogen-bulb bright.

Nevada and perennial mid-major darling Boise State were also going from the Western Athletic Conference to the MWC.

Among the mid-major conferences, the MWC that was already the best in the country, especially in football, would now be turbo-charged. With nationally ranked teams like TCU, BYU and Utah along with newcomers Fresno State, Nevada and Boise State, this conference had all the ingredients to bust up the power-broker football conferences...
