Okay, we can start with tonight at the John W. Wells Youth Center with the Foundation of High School Athletic Needs (FAN) dinner. Then Saturday the Madera Municipal Golf Course will be the venue for another terrific sports Hall of Fame dinner.

If you’re not into sports, maybe popping wine corks and blues tonight is more to your fancy. Indeed, there will be fancy wine and more at ApCal on Avenue 7 and Highway 99 when Darren Schmall and his crew kick off their summer concerts with the rockin’ blues band, Deja Blues (remember them?) Also on tap... wait, that’s beer, but it’s available there, too. Anyway, rumor has it a Guinness (another beer) world record will be set in popping corks. That is of the wine variety.

After a little taste of the vino Friday one can switch gears Saturday and head to the fairgrounds for the Madera Breakfast Lions Brewfest.

Now those Lions have somewhat become experts on pouring a good beer what with all the chili cook-offs, car shows, fairs and special events they have tapped a few kegs for. Saturday will feature many (not mini) micro-breweries for those connoisseurs of fine ale, lagers, stouts, Pilsners, or just suds or a good brewski. There will also be food, live music and a beer pong tournament...
