Snow on golden domes. A rare snow storm hit the Middle East last Thursday including blanketing the holy city of Jerusalem with up to six inches of the white stuff. I saw a couple of photos of kids playing in the snow and they looked like any youngster in our Midwest or Northeast. But with the location, do you think when they made snow angels they were maybe just a little more special?

An early Happy Birthday to reader Don Villariza next Tuesday. And a special congrats to his gal, Katie. You see, Don is an avid fisherman, and he found a great catch 56 years ago and they’ve been married ever since. Don enjoys the occasional Manhattan, but unfortunately, not too many of the young bartenders have ever heard of such a drink, much less know now to make one.

This scribe does not remember tasting beerocks since my stepmother Gail, a great cook, made them on a whim (actually on a cooking sheet) when I was a teen.

This grateful writer was reacquainted with the wonderful taste of the German and Eastern Europe concoction of dough, meat, cabbage and other scrumptious items by classmate and two-time cancer survivor Kay (Beckett) McCullough. With meat they were not for my gal, but the lovely Kay (always cooking something good) baked her some terrific cookies...
