“Begin the Beguine.” Not the Cole Porter song, made popular by Artie Shaw. Nor the R.E.M. tune of the same name. Nor should it be confused with the episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” titled “Begin the Begin.” Stay with me, the turkey is wearing off.

Beguine actually is a ballroom dance similar to the rumba. And recently my Saturday waitress at Black Bear Diner, the pretty Kim Begin (see, I told you there’s a connection) was doing her own dance through inches of water in her home after hitting a water pipe with a hammer and nail while trying to hang a picture.

Things you can probably only find out here. Not that, but this: “Begin the Beguine” is also discussed by characters John (Lennon) and Jeremy in the animated Beatles’ film “Yellow Submarine” which is what Kim would have needed if someone wouldn’t have arrived to fix the leak.

Yes, as some of you have seen, my gal, though far from recovered, is starting to get up, out and about and around this past week. And no, as one of you suggested to get her going, I did not spray her with WD-40 because it is supposed to be “good for slow moving parts.” She can now even take showers by herself… darn it...
