2014 begins in tragedy

A new year has dawned and our neighboring counties, Merced and Fresno, began 2014 with homicides. Alcohol and anger are rarely a good combination. Add a weapon to the equation and tragedy ensues. Lawmakers seem to think legislating the firearms industry is the answer.

These laws give the legislators an opportunity to appear tough on crime and allow them to seem pro-active to grieving families of gunfire victims.

Comedian Chris Rock is fond of saying what we need is not gun control but bullet control. He opines that if bullets cost $5,000 each there would be fewer bystanders shot because gangsters would be thriftier with their ammunition.

According to KFSN-TV, the Fresno death was from a stabbing. All the gun laws ever written wouldn’t save that life...
