‘Ain’t She Sweet’

Hard to believe it was 50 years ago Sunday when the Beatles changed the sound of music forever when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in front of screaming teenagers.

For me, that Sunday would turn into a “Hard Day’s Night” with my own sisters screaming at the television and dad screaming at them to be quiet. He looked at me and said, give me a little “Help” around here. He then pulled me aside to ask what I thought of it all and I replied “I Feel Fine.” He shrugged and just said, “I Should Have Known Better.”

The next day my stepmom (Gloria) came out with a soup bowl, combed my hair over my eyes and gave me a Beatle cut. Arriving at school I was quickly sent to the principal’s office where he called dear old dad. After picking me up, dad drove to a barbershop where I received what he and the principal thought was a proper haircut.

Wine, sweets and a little mushy. Health (or lack of it) precludes this scribe from enjoying the annual Wine and Chocolate Weekend starting tomorrow and hosted by the Madera Wine Trail. Over the years I’ve sipped some mighty fine vintages from our local wineries. However, not a lover of sweets, I usually passed on the chocolate. Besides, at home I have a gal that is as sweet as I will ever need...
